Talent Quest
Last week we had our school talent quest. Most of the intermediate students decided to create a glow stick mash up dance. It was so much fun creating the dance, and our teachers were so helpful with putting the music and moves together. It was a mad rush to get all of the glow sticks attached on the day, but it was so worth it - they looked amazing in the blacked out hall! We won the best group act on the day and used our prize money to have a celebration shared lunch together! We can't wait for next years talent quest!!!

Class Statistical Investigation
We have started looking at statistics in our class. We collated quantitative (numbers) and qualitative (descriptors) data. We started analysing the data by making "I notice" statements.

Plotting Co-ordinates
We have been learning how to find the correct point on a grid. You need to used the coordianates that are always written in brackets and the numbers are always separated by comma. To find the right point you need to trace across the x-axis (horizontal line) and then trace across the y-axis (vertical line) and where the lines meet in the grid is where the point is.
We used a sequence of coordinates to create a dot to dot drawing. When we connected the lines they made different pictures. It was interesting to compare ours with each other who made the same picture to see if we made any mistakes.

Short Class Courses
This is the class we look forward to the most every week (including our teachers because it's their favourite class to teach!!!)

Measuring Angles
Last week, Mrs Darlington transformed our tables into lots of angles. First we had to find some videos to watch so we could learn how to use the protractors which are special round rulers that measure then inside space of a corner. This is called an angle. We also learned that the corner can be called a vertex. When we measured the angles we also labeled if they were acute, right or obtuse! This sort of maths is fun because it's practical and something new.

Properties of Polygons
In maths we have been learning about different properties in 2D shapes. We have looked mainly at polygons which are shapes that have straight sides. So a circle is not a polygon! We have learnt lots of new vocabulary, like quadrilateral, tessellate, parallel, symmetry and equilateral. Have a look at some of our work and see if you can work out what our new words mean!

Our Class
We are a group of 21 year 7 and 8 students. There are more boys than girls in our class. We have two main teachers, Mrs Dormer teaches us our literacy, and Mrs Darlington focuses on our maths. We go to lots of other teachers for our other subjects like PE, health, technology, art, music and food technology.
Every term we also get to choose a short course, these are special classes to expand our learning. This term we have chosen from basketball, stitching skills, robotics, enterprise challenges and workshop skills.
Our school is in the Far North of New Zealand, in a town called Taipa. We come from all over Doubtless Bay.
We love where we live because we are right next to the beach. We can even look out our classroom window and see the beach. The summertime is the best, because we get to go the beach for lunchtime swims!
